Description

Grade 301LN is an austenitic stainless steel that has a high work-hardening rate. The stainless steel grade is similar to grade 301 but with low carbon for improved ductility and welding of heavy sections. The steel has higher nitrogen content so as to compensate for the lower carbon content. The steel shows high mechanical strength at ambient temperatures that is further improved by cold working, good overall corrosion resistance and very good resistance to intergranular corrosion, excellent weldability.

The steel is a preferred grade for fabricating components of Metro Rail Coaches because of the high strength and excellent weldability. It is extensively used in Standard Temper (ST) form, and a few applications in Medium Temper (MT) form. It is reasonable to expect specifications in these standards to be similar but not necessarily identical to those given in this data sheet.
