Description
Raykam 309 is an austenitic chromium nickel stainless steel (0.08% max carbon). The steel is employed for parts requiring both corrosion and heat resistance and oxidation resistance up to 1093 °C (2000 °F). Strength at elevated temperatures is similar to that of 18-8 Stainless Steels. This alloy posses excellent resistance to oxidation as well as high tensile and creep strengths at elevated temperatures. It is more resistant to marine atmospheres than 304 grade. It is generally considered as a heat-resisting alloy.
Under thermal cycling conditions this grade resists oxidation up to a temperature of approximately 1850˚F. The steel has good sulfidation resistance but low resistance to carburization and should not be used in highly carburizing atmospheres. It is non-magnetic in the annealed and cold worked conditions.
Stainless Steel 309 provides excellent corrosion resistance. The alloy offer more resistant to marine atmospheres than Stainless Steel 304. It is often used at higher temperatures to take advantage of their oxidation resistance and also have high resistance to sulfite liquors. The alloy does not perform as well as Alloy 600 (UNS N06600) or Alloy 800H (UNS N08810) in reducing, nitriding or carburizing atmospheres, but it does outperform most heat resistant stainless steels in these conditions.
